Live Chat with Photography great

Hi im back. Got ssome pressure in front of me but I think that God will help me through it. My secular music ends on Friday but because of Sabbath it will actually end on Saturday. Friday is also Song Day for the choir so I cant wait to see the things we all bring. I even got color-coded post-it notes!

Also, Gospel choir auditions are tomorrow. Its short notice, but I had to decide, and I decided to do it! This will be the first time I technically compete, and I hope to get in, so far Im perfect in applications for stuff.

Today is a chat with the great artist FourEyes
who is a phtographer and an architect, and to me thats really inspiring. I learned alot.

For example, art can help with college bills. Also the way to become great artist is to live your art. That turns out as a matter of fact to be evident in graffiti, but I dont believe strongly in vandalism.

digimonsterz: Your turn.

Has there ever been a time when photography played a critical and major role in your life? If so, what was it?

a critical role?....it plays a critical role in my everday life. As I said, it inspires me, motivates me, allows me to be a better architect. That is a pretty darn big role if you ask me. But specifically I can remember my time during college when I was trying to make some money to pay the bills

I used my photography skills to make a living and this allowed me a flexible schedule - flexible enough to keep up A's in my classes

Do you believe there is sort of a social divide amongst photographers, it seems to me that many older, experienced photographer don't give a lot of us young ones the time of day to prove themselves, whether it be in wedding, creative or reportage photography, no matter how good your portfolio is or how enthusiastic you are or how competent you are. So what advice would you give to somebody just starting out in the world of photography who wants to get noticed?

I do believe that there is some prejudice against young photographers. There is almost the stigma that young means inexperienced, but this is just stemming from older photographers' ego perhaps

I think that your question is really good because this is something that happens in other fields, architecture for example suffers from this

I always say to those young photographers out there to keep trying and remember that experience and spontaneous innovation do not go hand and hand.

of course there is something to be said about time in the art - look at kung fu masters. They arent good from the get go - but if you are really motivated

and you love what you are doing, then you are living your art - and people can see that in your art

what did the architecture do to your photos and what did your photography do to your architecture? ------ you mentioned that photography is an inspiration.. and I take it pretty much the same way... but I want to know the way the 2 things modify eachother. I can see a strong architectural sense in the way you choose the angles and perspective of the photos... but I wonder if you ever used a specific element from one domain to the other. can you think of some examples?

good question vulpul

I think that neitzche said that architecture is frozen music

I see it as that - architecture is a form, solid, still

yet moving the eye, carrying it

I am intersested in the abstract feelings of the urban landscape colors

some of my photos are concerned with the arrangment of fields of color and forms

I believe that color is a medium that can convey the most subtle and complex feelings. It can give the viewer a sense of particular place and time

debussy said something along the lines that music is inseperable from color - cant remember it verbatim, but that always stuck with me

architecture starts with a 2-d sketch

and later becomes a 3d object

this relationship I feel is very important

cant say much more right now - done

lata lata...

why are your photos mostly framed into a squarish format? is it a personal preference or do you have a particular artistic reason for it?

the square as the triangle is one of the strongest geometrical shapes. The corners draw your eyes to the center of the shape.

specific circles can be very strong

if you are intrested in geometry and shapes I recommend a book titled "The geometry of life and art"

Thats it for now since theyre on break now and I hope you guys learn alot from this. I saw a couple of people I know and used to talk to alot at the chat, so ya it felt like an event.
