Do you REALLY wanna know what I did this summer?

Last summer was an awesome summer, I saw a lot of new things, and got to know some cool new people. I saw a lot of this because I worked a lot of temporary jobs last summer.

At my job at Harvard Medical School I learned how to impress people by being on time, and overdressing. The people were awesome and it felt weird being 19 and working in a place where they have beer and pizza on Fridays, but I eventually got the hang of it, just in time to be removed from the position since it was designed to go way past thew Fall semester. How humbling. (length: 1 week)

At Best Doctors, I learned what bad placements are made of; the person who requested me wasn't there, and it wasn't clear what they even needed me for. The most boring Friday of my life ensued, but the work was done faithfully, and I ran out of there like a bat out of hell once the day ended. Oh, and these two older ladies thought i looked cute in my suit. That shouldn't be the highlight of anyone's day. (length: 1 day)

At Greater Boston Food Bank, I had a blast pretty much the whole time. I could work there full time, and that's saying a lot considering I worked in a trailer next to real building. The people were genuinely nice, and I got to drive to work, which is so much more fun than the subway. Also, it felt great to work in a organization that works round the clock to feed the hungry. It doesn't get much more fulfilling than that. (length: 2 days)

At MWH Engineering, I experienced half of the things listed on stuffwhitepeoplelike.com. I see why white people like those things. Also, the people there taught me a lot, especially considering I don't plan on becoming an engineer. Oh, and I got free Mexican food for lunch. That just made it awesome. (length: 2 days)

A Nurse convention at the Sheraton Boston. I don't remember what company I worked for, but this job was fun cause it was at night. I had two cool coworkers, and I guess only three Black folks were willing to take this job, but in the end all I did was hold up a picket sign advertising a session, east their food, and took home all the office supplies they didn't want. Best. job. evar. (length: 1 night)

Finally, the day after the night job, where I was very sleep deprived, I got a call the morning of to work at Trigen Energy. They're one of those companies that is responsible for those manholes with the steam coming out of em like you see on TV. So, as sleepy as I was, I was a receptionist, which was a first for me. But it was nice, because I waited for the phone to ring, almost ticked off the CEO, surfed the net for half a day, and spent the other half studying. In the SUMMER! And did I mention it was the highest paying job I've ever had?

SO the moral of the story is, unless you're already a junior, you might want to spend the summer temping. You can learn a lot!
